If someone you love is struggling
What to do right now
- Ask directly. "Are you thinking about killing yourself?" Asking does not put the idea in their head.
- Stay with them. Do not leave them alone. Listen more than you talk.
- Keep them safe. If you can do it safely, put distance between them and anything they could use to hurt themselves.
- Call together. Call or text 988 with them. If they are in danger, call 911.
- Follow up. Check in tomorrow, and the day after.
If you are the one struggling
You are not alone in this
Tell one person today. Call or text 988. You do not have to explain everything. Saying "I'm not okay" is enough to start.
A word of hope
Your life is not worthless and this night is not the end. Jesus Christ died for sinners and rose again, and He does not turn away anyone who comes to Him. That hope is real, and it is for you.
